The cardinals have recovered from molt and are looking good for winter. The colder weather has them very active near the feeders.

The cardinal was selected by school children in 1929 to be the state bird in Illinois. It is also the state bird of Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Cardinals breed 2-3 times a year. The male takes care of the young while the female moves on to hatch another batch.
